Résumé : |
Performed in the frame of a 3 weeks internship in the Cliniques Universitaires St-Luc, this retrospective study aims at emphasizing the potential benefits of the Breath Hold technique.
It was carried out on 10 patients to demonstrate whether or not this technique has a positive impact on various therapy cases. The therapy plans were carried out in free breathing and blocked breathing in order to obtain a doses report for each technique. First of all, the purpose of the Breath Hold technique is to set aside the heart and lungs from the irradiation zone by maintaining the patient in maximum apnea for 20 seconds. By doing so, the high-risk organs are preserved from the doses and the radiation-induced side effects decrease. For the sake of consistency, the PTV coverages were analyzed for both techniques. If the coverages are not quasi equal, it is impossible to compare the risks. Following this observation, we could notice the benefits of this technique, which decreases significantly the doses on organs at risk. To conclude, this research made it possible to underline the real benefits of this technique for the left-sided breast cancer therapies. |
