Résumé : |
Introduction
This case study retrospectively explores an observation of a low birth weight (LBW) baby born at term to a woman with a low body mass index (BMI) and a history of anorexia nervosa and depression. The observations are from a midwifery perspective and were made of the newborn at home with her mother on two separate occasions within the first three weeks of life. The aim of this case study is to focus on the infant's physical, cognitive and psychosocial developmental needs, and critically discuss this from the perspective of different theorists. The observations took place during the postnatal period early in the newborn's life. This paper will therefore take a prospective approach in examining the evidence to explore potential developmental issues that may arise for the infant. Finally conclusions are drawn aimed at informing midwifery practice. |
