Résumé : |
Aim:
The aim of this review is to explore how current day treatment avenues used by medical practitioners can be enhanced through the support of preventative interventions, such as: i) screening, ii) consultations to promote conversations regarding maternal health, and iii) reducing risk factors within the medical environment, such as obstetric care, to reduce the incidence and risk of postnatal depression (PND) onset, while also increasing awareness of this matter in the health care field. Summary: PND is a mental health condition entailing the onset of depression in women following birth, with the illness reducing quality of maternal and family life, with possible adverse effects for the child. Findings: The onset of PND can be reduced by careful management of pain during labour for some women, reducing the need for interventions postpartum. Recommendations: Further research is recommended to explore the need for greater antenatal preparation in coping with pain during childbirth. Conclusion: Studying the limited yet promising literature surrounding reduced onset of PND via obstetric care further warrants the need for more research to be conducted. |
