Résumé : | Intrapartum risk factors for early breastfeeding difficulty have been known for a long time. Evans et al in 2003 found that lactogenesis Il was delayed in women following caesarean birth when compared with spontaneous vaginal birth; in the same year, Dewey et al (2003) reported that primiparity and mode of birth were strongly associated with significant newborn weight loss (SNWL) and delayed onset of lactation. Fast forward to 2019, where many further studies and a large systematic review by Kelly et al (2020) reassert this association, noting that despite the wealth of evidence, information regarding the potential effects of operative or medicated birth is not routinely included in standard antenatal birth preparation or in guidance on the receipt of consent pre-caesarean. Prospective parents are not being warned about or prepared for potential problems related to the birth process. |
