Résumé : |
-Evaluation of foot drop begins by determining the etiologic cause. This is done by performing a thorough history and physical examination of the patient. Foot drop etiologic causes are then separated into three categories, the central nervous system, spinal nerve root injury, and distal peripheral nervous system foot drop.
-Diagnostic testing is an integral part when selecting procedure to be performed for foot drop correction. It is important to perform radiographic evaluation, EMG/NCV, ultrasound examination and MRI to rule help identify the origin of foot drop. -Surgical considerations for foot drop are dependent upon the etiologic findings as well as diagnostic evaluation. Once identified these procedures can include the use of tendon transfers, nerve transfer procedures, and possible arthrodesis at the ankle joint. |
