Résumé : | The purpose of corrective bunion surgery is to relieve the pain associated with the first metatarsal head medial prominence.1,2 Because of both patient and surgeon dissatisfaction with the results of traditional surgical interventions, there is a revitalized and concerted effort to change the approach to surgical management to improve outcomes.3 These outcomes concern the pain of the acute procedure, the healing time, the recurrence incidence, the time to full weight-bearing in shoes, the time to return to activities, and stiffness. The surgeon also has other outcomes; these include the reliability and reproducibility of the procedure as well as costs. The costs can be calculated in training time, intraoperative time, materials costs, follow-up care, the recurrence costs, and patient satisfaction costs. There are few published studies on the stability of osteotomies with extensive lateral translation and minimal bone contact.4,5 There are few published studies on mechanical constructs with extensive lateral translations.6 This article outlines the constructs associated with distal first metatarsal osteotomies using minimal incision surgical (MIS) techniques.
