Simulation-based training provides educational opportunities that enhance acquisition of knowledge, skills, and behaviors promoting a competency-based educational system in environments promoting patient safety.
Virtual reality simulations have demonstrated enhanced surgical skills transferable to the real-world operating room setting. Expansion of educational methods to include a virtual operating room specific to the needs of podiatric surgery in the clinical curriculum at Western University of Health Sciences. WesternU College of Podiatric Medicine anticipates the virtual operating room enhances student engagement in podiatric surgical and interprofessional team-based training to facilitate improvements in students knowledge and skills, and ultimately impacting patient care quality and safety. |
