Résumé : |
- Metatarsal head avascular necrosis (AVN) can be effectively prevented avoiding extensive plantar bone stripping of the metatarsal neck. Also when a distal chevron osteotomy is performed, the plantar cut should finish well proximal to the capsular attachment in order to keep the plantar vascular supply of the metatarsal head.
- Nonunion is a very infrequent complication after metatarsal osteotomies. Intrinsic stability and location of the osteotomy, type of fixation, and comorbidities, including vitamin D deficiency, can influence the occurrence of this unusual situation. - Malunion after hallux valgus surgery includes shortening, elevation, plantarflexion, varus/valgus, and rotational deformities. They can lead to pain, stiffness, deformity recurrence, and transfer metatarsalgia. - First metatarsophalangeal (MTP) arthritis can be developed after metatarsal malunion or AVN. Treatment options include cheilectomy, osteotomies to correct malunions, and MTP arthrodesis. |
