Résumé : | Flexible fixation continues to evolve and increase in popularity in foot and ankle surgery. Flexible fixation devices are often used for stabilization of the ankle syndesmosis and for augmentation of lateral collateral ankle ligament injury repairs. Flexible fixation has been used in hallux valgus or varus correction, as well as Lisfranc injury repair, although clinical studies for use in these scenarios are limited. More recently, spring ligament repair augmentation has been described in flexible flatfoot reconstructive procedures. Possible benefits of flexible fixation may include less need for removal, allowance of physiologic micromotion, and improved strength when used for augmentation of ligamentous repairs. Although further clinical studies are needed to assess the long-term outcomes, the utilization of these devices will likely continue to increase in foot and ankle surgery as surgeons continue to develop methods to improve patient satisfaction and overall outcomes. |
