Design Single-group, repeated measures design. Methods Twenty-eight subjects (mean age 25 + 5.09 years) performed an AFR with and without ABM while on stable and unstable surfaces. Lower quarter muscle activity and forward reach distances were recorded. Results Forward reach distances on the unstable surface were significantly decreased compared to the stable condition with and without ABM (p Disponible en ligne : Oui En ligne : https://login.ezproxy.vinci.be/login?url=https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a [...] Permalink : https://bib.vinci.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=286796

There is evidence that APS is more strenuous than traditional methods, but evidence on the optimal RI between agonist-antagonist actions is unknown. Objective The aim of this study was to compare different rest intervals between agonist-antagonist actions during APS in young adults. Method Fifty healthy men (mean age 23.2 + 2.8 years; 1.76 + 0.1m height, 78.03 + 8.1 kg) were included and performed three different agonist-antagonist paired-sets protocols separated by 72h, consisting of 4 sets of 10 repetitions. The protocols differed in terms of the rest interval between the knee flexion and extension movements: 0s (no rest); 60s and 120s. The rest intervals between exercise sets were standardized at 60s. Total work, peak torque, neuromuscular efficiency, surface EMG amplitude (sEMG, root mean square) and fatigue index obtained by processing of sEMG signal, were compared between rest intervals and exercise sets within each protocol. Results There were no significant differences between rest intervals for total work, peak torque and neuromuscular efficiency (P > 0.05), but significant differences were found for sEMG and fatigue (P Disponible en ligne : Oui En ligne : https://login.ezproxy.vinci.be/login?url=https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a [...] Permalink : https://bib.vinci.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=286803

Design: Crossover.
Methods: Fourteen participants (mean ± SD age, 23.4 ± 4.1 years) 6-24 months after ACL reconstruction performed the Prevent Injury and Enhance Performance (PEP) and bicycle ergometer warm-up in a randomised sequence. Washout phase was one week. Countermovement jumps with anticipated and unanticipated single-leg-landings were assessed. Decision-making quality was measured using landing error count.
Results: No carry-over effects occurred (p > 0.05). The unanticipated task produced significantly higher peak ground reaction forces (Δ+4%, F(11) = 3.46, p Conclusions: Evaluating unanticipated jump-landing ability prior to return to sports clearance may provide information on potential re-injury risk factors. PEP warm-up may be superior to bicycle ergometer warm-up at improving unanticipated decision-making quality among athletes cleared to return to sports.Disponible en ligne : Oui En ligne : https://login.ezproxy.vinci.be/login?url=https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a [...] Permalink : https://bib.vinci.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=288804

Massage is an often-used recovery method with varying recovery outcome. This study was to investigate the effect of lower limb massage on recovery HRV following repeated knee flexion and extension exercise-to-exhaustion. Methods Nine healthy men aged between 20 and 30 years old were recruited and randomly assigned to a control group (n = 5) and massage group (n = 4). The HRV spectral analysis was performed at baseline, pre-exercise, post-exercise and immediately post-intervention. For intervention, the participants in the massage group received a 10-min massage on the quadriceps and hamstring muscles of the dominant leg whereas the control group received none. The HRV was presented as low-frequency (LF) peak (Hz), power (ms2), power (normalised unit; n.u.) and high-frequency (HF), peak (Hz), power (ms2), power (n.u.) as well as LF/HF ratio. Results Spectral power analysis showed there were no significant differences in the LF indices and LF/HF ratio with massage. HRV normalisation data revealed a within-subject difference with massage. Conclusions Massage caused an immediate parasympathetic activation during recovery from a single exhaustive muscle contraction exercise. Hence, massage may be used to potentiate recovery.
