Key to addressing this disparity is to ensure the ethnicity of the health workforce reflects the local community. Understanding Black, Asian and minority ethnic midwives' perceptions of the workplace is important to achieving racial equality. This study aimed to determine Black, Asian and minority ethnic midwives' views and to explore their attitudes about the working culture at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW). Consistent with the wider literature, Black, Asian and minority ethnic midwives reported significant levels of discrimination and abuse and perceived differences between White and Black, Asian and minority ethnic midwives' support for career development within the National Health Service (NHS).
