Résumé : |
As an introduction, PET MR is a new hybrid equipment associating PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). This type of scanner allows to simultaneously acquire anatomical and functional images with good images of good resolution.
Firstly, MRI and PET are two distinct modalities. Professionals will have to take up challenges in order to optimize this new technique. Secondly, since PET MR is recent in Europe -three in France and one in Belgium- indications and pricing of examinations are not determined yet. Researches about optimized acquisition and processing protocols are underway at the nuclear medicine department of the Orsay hospital in France. Thirdly, this modality seems to be especially suited for some indications such as those in paediatrics. To conclude, PET MR is recent on the market but already has a definite future in medicine to improve diagnoses, by the optimized contrast of MRI in soft tissues and CNS, and also in some instances reduce the radiation doses by substitution of MRI to the CT component of hybrid scanner. |
