Résumé : | With over 1 million death every year, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the first cause of cancer-related mortality. Various treatment modalities exist to effectively treat low grade NSCLC. Surgical resection is the primary standard of care for those patients but is associated with mortality rates of 1 to 5% for lobectomy and up to 10% after pneumonectomy. 15-30% of patients are inoperable for surgery, the role of less invasive techniques such as Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) and Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) is growing. While RFA is considered as a third line option due to lower local control, the radiotherapy could become the main standard in the future due to its recent technological development. The latest radiotherapy technique provides high-precision, using large (ablative) radiation doses per fraction. With its ability of real-time tumor tracking, the CyberKnife® (Accuray, Sunnyvale, CA, US) is able to safely reach high local tumor control rates (>90%), using massive ablative dose of radioations. These results are comparable to those obtained with surgery, supporting its consideration even for operable patients. |
