Résumé : |
PURPOSE: To compare two samples of patients (treated by a dose given to the apex of the tumor of 70 Gy and 90 Gy) in order to appraise the efficiency of a prescribed lower dose.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: The first part of this work describes the eye anatomy, the uveal melanoma with its characteristics (epidemiology, diagnosis, symptoms, risk factors) and the different treatment methods. Brachytherapy techniques will also be developed. The second part is more practical describing the different steps to follow for the manufacturing of a brachytherapy plaque. At last, the different aspects of the comparative study will be presented: The clinical results for different stages of the tumor (T1, T2, T3 and T4), the patients status and the isodose volumes will be analysed. RESULTS: Thanks to the analyses of this comparative study, we observe that a decrease of the dose given at the apex of the tumor has no consequence both in the local recurrence of the disease and in the mortality rate by cancer. Moreover, with a prescribed dose of 70 Gy, the total dose to the eye is less important than with a prescribed dose of 90 Gy at the apex of the tumor. |
