Abstract: Classical ballet dancers are athletes with sporting and aesthetic demands. Their
social and professional environment and their propensity for low back pain (LBP) imply specific physiotherapy needs. These needs are still poorly documented. The aims of this literature review are (1) exploring the specific considerations to be taken into account in the management (prevention and treatment) of dancers with acute low back pain and (2) highlighting the remaining grey areas on the subject. We examined 15 databases from February to June 2022. Specific considerations concerning bio-psycho-social profile, risk factors, common pathologies but also prevention and treatment about the dancers with LBP were collected. The elements of prevention and treatment found are incomplete and do little to distinguish classical dancers from other athletes, although some specificities exist. Their environment and psychosocial profile are among the special considerations for their care while the pathologies, risk factors, prevention and treatment are similar to those of other athletes. The grey areas mainly concern bio-psycho-social and cultural factors, screening and tests tools, risk factors, prevention and the specific needs of dancers in relation to treatment. The recency of this field of study would require broader and more in-depth studies. |
