| Résumé : | Osteomyelitis is a limb-threatening diagnosis that requires a multidisciplinary approach for the best clinical outcome. An academic setting provides the treating physician and surgeon with the best diagnostic resources and allows for collaboration between the hospitalists, infection disease specialists, and vascular interventionists to optimize the patient for surgical debridement restoring the function to the affected limb; this requires advance planning and often involves staged reconstruction of the limb for the best surgical outcome. In addition, it is always important to remember that in certain clinical case scenarios, a proximal leg amputation is not a failed treatment of osteomyelitis. With proper recovery, rehabilitation, and lower extremity prosthesis, patients may return to their normal daily activities. |
