Résumé : |
Background: The rate of induction of labour (IOL) has increased nationally and is now part of about 30 per cent of births. IOL is associated with increased medical interventions which can impact on birth plans and outcomes. Poor birth experience is linked with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), potentially having a negative effect on maternal mental health.
Objectives: -To learn from women's experience and ascertain what information women want to know prior to IOL. -To develop a film to meet information requirements, improve birth satisfaction and potentially, maternal mental health outcomes. Design: Thirty women completed a written survey prior to IOL. A semi-structured telephone interview was undertaken six weeks postnatally. Analysis of the surveys and interviews was undertaken using thematic analysis. The themes were used to develop a film script. The script was shared with the maternity Patient and Public Involvement & Engagement (PPIE) group and senior midwifery team for approval of content accuracy and engagement. Findings: Five themes emerged from the interviews: 1.emotions 2.previous children 3.communication 4.processes 5.strategies Implications: The professionally developed film will be used to better prepare women for IOL, both locally and nationally. |
