Résumé : |
Childbirth is a normal physiological event and yet, every day, women are subjected to routine
procedures due to 'the notion of risk'. They experience fragmented care and give birth in clinical, unfamiliar environments. Pregnancy and childbirth are profound experiences for women and their families and, for some, are a time of heightened anxiety. Fear of the unknown and a perceived lack of control can leave long-lasting effects on psychological wellbeing and family relationships. The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the fact that women want compassionate care and support from known caregivers, both of which maximise the potential for physiological birth and a positive experience. |
