Résumé : | Midwives at the Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health in the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine implement and measure the outcomes of capacity-building workshops for health care providers, which aim to improve the quality of maternity services in low- and middle-income countries. These competency-based workshops address the needs of midwives working with limited resources and aim to improve maternal and newborn health during and after pregnancy, throughout the continuum of care. With growing recognition that positive experiences during and after pregnancy contribute to better health outcomes for women and their babies, the workshop encompasses respectful maternity care' as a core component of all essential maternal and newborn care. It discusses the realities of respectful care for women and midwives in low- and middle-income countries and supports a unique and sustainable approach to capacity-building in an enabling environment. |
