| Résumé : | The professional midwifery advocate (PMA) is a relatively new and nascent role within the midwifery profession that has been created to implement the employer-led, A-EQUIP model of clinical midwifery supervision (NHS England 2017a, Martin et al 2018). The model has been adapted from the clinical supervision model initially developed by Cutcliffe & Proctor (1998a, 1998b); the aim of the model is to enhance the quality and effectiveness of midwifery practice through a process of continuous improvement that builds individual resilience and enhances well-being. A-EQUIP is the acronym used to describe the principles of the model, these being ‘Advocating and educating for quality improvement'(NHS England 2017a:iv). These principles are elucidated further to identify the four functions of the A-EQUIP model, which are: personal action for quality improvement; monitoring, evaluation and quality control; education and development; and clinical supervision (NHS England 2017a). |
