OBJECTIVE: Comparison of two imaging modalities between colpo-cysto-defecography and defeco-MRI.
METHODS: Colpo-cysto-defecography (CCD) is a conventional radiological imaging modality that consists of visualizing urination and defecation via opacification of the bladder, vagina, rectum and slender loops; for the purpose of assessing the dynamics of the pelvic floor. 34 cases with CDD imaging will be analyzed. Defeco-MRI (DMRI) is a magnetic resonance imaging modality that involves visualizing, through opacification of the rectum and vagina, defecation; in order to assess the dynamics of the pelvic floor. For this modality, 31 cases will be analyzed. RESULTS: It was found that 6.5% of the examinations at the DMRI are non-contributory compared to 0% at the CCD. It also emerged that the age of the patients was an important factor in the success of the DMRI. In fact, in the age group of women under 50, the rate of non-contributory examinations is 0%. In addition, it appears that the DMRI detects only 39% of undiagnosed elytroceles in the clinic against 56% in the CCD. However, it is noted that CCD is 8 times more radiating than multiple abdomen examinations. CONCLUSION: CCD presents many advantages in the current state of practice in regard to DMRI. Despite its radiating character, CCD keeps its place as the DMRI cannot be performed under physiological conditions. |
