Résumé : |
Research Question: Is the availability of free meals for all students associated with elementary school childrens school attendance?
Key Findings: In this quasi-experimental study that included 3 years of observations in 37 treatment and 108 control schools, student attendance increased in schools that implemented universal free meals through the Community Eligibility Provision, relative to attendance changes in eligible-but-not-participating schools. These gains emerged in the second year of implementation, when the availability of universally free meals was associated with a statistically significant decrease of 3.5 percentage points in the percent of students missing at least 5% of annual schooldays, compared with attendance changes in control schools. |
