Résumé : | The importance of understanding running-related injuries (RRI) is emphasised by the high incidence and prevalence rates (van der worp, 2015, van Gent et al., 2007, Videbaek, Bueno, Nielsen, & Rasmussen, 2015) as well as the physical and psychological benefits of running (Chan & Grossman, 1988, Lucidi et al., 2016, Pedisic et al., 2019). Recent appeals have been made to better understand RRI from a complex systems perspective (Bertelsen et al., 2017, Hulme, 2017, Hulme and Finch, 2015, Hulme and Finch, 2016). This involves using complementary research approaches concurrently with traditional epidemiological analysis to gain a holistic view of all causal factors of RRI (Hulme & Finch, 2015). Currently, quantitative studies dominate the RRI literature and use a person-centred approach to identify the cause of injury (Holden, 2009). Moreover, interventions often place the responsibility on the runner to adopt preventative tactics (Baltich et al., 2017, Esculier et al., 2017, Kong et al., 2009, Rixe et al., 2012, Warne et al., 2015). To date, these reductionist methods have yielded little data on effective injury prevention strategies (van Gent et al., 2007, van Mechelen, 1992, van Mechelen et al., 1992, Malisoux, Nielsen, Urhausen, Theisen ). As a result, a new paradigm has emerged calling for pragmatic and inclusive methodologies that contribute to the complex aetiology of RRI (Hulme et al., 2017, Hulme and Finch, 2015). |
